How does a dental practice insulate against tough times?

Hi ,

2021 and into the first quarter of 2022 was a tremendously difficult year for businesses everywhere.

But if you made it through that…

You can make it through anything!

If it’s taught me anything it’s that growth can happen even when it seems impossible.

Despite all the setbacks of the past two years, we still managed to stick to our plans and expand our business footprint!

It took a lot of hard work (as all good things do) but in doing so it demonstrated an important point:

A change in situation can easily cause difficulties for you and your practice…

But that doesn’t mean you have to put up with it!

Changing how you react to a change in situation could mean the difference between success and failure!

Let’s unpack this.

Countless businesses have struggled to adapt to change. And over the past twenty years, there’s been a lot of change.

The dot-com boom (and consequently, the dot-com bust) in the early 2000s ushered in big changes for the world of business.

The 2008 economic crash was another big hurdle that we all had to overcome.

And now in 2022, we’re coming out of a global pandemic (some places faster than others) that has transformed how people earn and spend their money.

You might be thinking “It’s a miracle we’re all still in business!

But the truth is, businesses in other industries that thrived despite these setbacks weren’t lucky.

They were smart.

They adapted to the changes, reworked their business models, and fought to stay relevant in the new landscape.

As dentists, we face different challenges.

The hands-on nature of our work isn’t going to change any time soon. People will always need dental care and dentists are the ones who provide it.

But the way in which we MARKET our services and how predictably we CONVERT is what separates the most successful practices from the least successful.

As an example let’s look together at what has now become commonplace in dentistry:

Using virtual / video conferencing software to consult and connect with high value patients.

Without this, we would not have been able to convert as many patients as we did from our marketing campaigns in 2020, 2021 and now in 2022. We wouldn’t have started as many Invisalign cases as we did. And we wouldn’t have been able to position ourselves in the marketplace way we did. In other words…

We adapted.

If your practice isn’t offering some sort of virtual consultation for patients then you’re almost certainly missing out on helping all the people who are hesitant, working from home or are looking for a cutting edge dental office.

Performing a perfect consultation is part of the solution. Effective marketing is part of it too. Combining these in a delivery format that patients respond to is magic.
